At BT, we strategically deploy our skilled teams across different states to deliver exceptional results while balancing project needs with crew considerations.

  • We excel as the premier open-cut and trenchless excavator and utility contractor in Colorado and Utah, where our core expertise delivers unmatched quality.
  • Our teams tackle the most complex problems, providing optimal solutions for municipalities, contractors, and projects of all types.
  • When challenging situations arise beyond our primary service areas, our specialized teams can travel to meet your needs. If you want a straightforward, honest assessment upfront, simply give us a call.
  • We bring whatever open-cut or trenchless technology your project requires to ensure the job is completed correctly the first time.

Services We Confidently Offer

Open-cut

BT’s open-cut services entail excavating a trench from the surface to install or repair underground utilities like water, sewer, or storm pipes. This traditional method allows direct access to the utility but can be more disruptive.

Electrical Duct Bank

Underground electrical transmission and communication duct banks contribute to BT’s diverse resume of utility infrastructure installation experience.

Sanitary

Sanitary service laterals, large interceptor lines, lift stations, and force-mains installed utilizing the safest and most cost-effective methods to ensure public health and protection of the environment is our hallmark.

Sheet Pile

Innovative sheet pile driving. Our side-grip, excavator-mounted attachment is perfect for small and challenging sites.

Steam & Chilled

Storm

Stormwater diversion is efficiently accomplished through a variety of conveyance systems, from small-diameter pipelines to large culverts and outlet structures.

Water

Small-diameter waterlines and service lines to large-diameter transmission mains, steam, and chilled water lines—all expertly installed in quiet residential communities, rugged mountain terrain, busy university campuses, and everywhere in between.

Trenchless Services

Our trenchless services include specialized techniques to install, repair, or replace underground utilities with minimal surface disruption. Methods like pipe bursting or horizontal directional drilling allow underground work without digging large trenches.

Auger Boring

Auger boring simultaneously jacks the casing forward while removing the spoil via rotating auger blades. BT utilizes auger boring as an inexpensive installation method for suitable ground conditions and tolerances in a wide range of casing diameters.

Guided Boring (GBM)

Guided boring machine (GBM) is used in conjunction with the horizontal auger boring machine to install small-diameter pipes with greater grade and alignment precision. We use multiple methods for GBM, including pilot tube and McLaughlin.

Hammer & Pipe Ramming

A pneumatic ramming tool drives the casing forward without the removal of spoils. We remove spoils by various methods, dependent on soil types, after the casing is in place.

Hand Mining

Hydraulic jacks advance the tunnel while our highly experienced and trained crews excavate the material at the tunnel face by hand or with a small excavator.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

A directional boring machine operates by using a rotating drill pipe with a connected drill bit to bore and push into the ground, which creates a borehole. We guide the drill pipe through the boring process by means of drilling fluids and a locating device until it emerges on the opposite side of the boring project. We then attach a reaming tool to the drill pipe and pull it back through the borehole, drilling it to a larger circumference and clearing the path to pull back the pipe string. Bores can range from 2” to 36” in diameter and in lengths that range from 100 to 3,000 feet. This innovative and reliable method reduces surface disturbance and allows for shorter completion times.

Hydrovac Execution

Hydrovac excavation provides a non-destructive, cost-effective, and accurate process to safely locate underground utilities. We remove wet and dry materials, making it a versatile process for a variety of applications.

McLaughlin OTS Boring

At BT, we use the McLaughlin On-Target system to install bores up to 400 feet. This guidance system is equipped with a water level and two enclosed halogen lights for checking and maintaining grade. The cutting path is controlled by hydraulic actuated flaps to regulate the direction of the bore, providing more accuracy.

Microtunneling (MTBM)

Microtunneling is generally defined as remotely controlled pipe-jacking (personnel entry is not required), whereby the soils at the cutter face are controlled to maintain balance. Muck removal is conducted by a pressurized slurry transport via variable frequency controlled centrifugal pumps. BT has the most advanced information and control system available, located for easy access by the operator.

Pipe Bursting/Sliplining

This is BT’s highly effective method for replacing a host pipe by fragmenting the existing pipe and installing a completely new pipe of equal or lesser diameter.

Tunnel Boring (TBM)

Trenchless utility installation via auger bores, tunnel boring machines, microtunnels, pipe bursting, and slip lining has always been a part of our repertoire at BT. We support continued innovation and implementation of the very latest technologies.

Municipal Support

We offer on-call contracts to municipalities, ensuring rapid response when critical issues arise. With a highly diversified skill set and experienced crews, BT is equipped to handle a wide range of storm, water, and sewer utility emergencies.

Design Build

Lending a contractor’s point of view to engineers and owners through constructibility reviews allows them to account for certain previously unconsidered aspects of a project, producing superior project delivery for our municipal partners.

Emergency Response

Sometimes, “stuff happens.” When it does, our valued municipal partners turn to BT’s experienced crews—knowing we will provide them with a timely, cost-effective resolution.
